Major Arcana 7
The Chariot: tarot card meaning

What the card shows
A warrior in armour and a star-topped crown stands in a chariot beneath a canopy of stars, holding a wand, with no reins in sight. Two sphinxes, one black and one white, rest in front of it, and a winged disc with a red emblem sits on the chariot's front. City walls and a river lie behind.
Deck: the 1909 edition, illustrated by Pamela Colman Smith.
Upright meaning
momentum, willpower, discipline, struggle, victory
The Chariot shows forward movement that runs on will and discipline. Two sphinxes of different colours sit before the chariot, and the driver steers them with no reins, by intention alone. In everyday life that could be studying for an exam while working full time, moving to another city, or finishing an argument you decided to see through. The card hints at a win earned through focus and effort. Notice which two pulls inside you are heading in different directions right now, and what could bring them together: a clear goal, a deadline, a promise to yourself.
Reversed meaning
quarrel, lost direction, defeat, scattered effort, pushing too hard
Reversed, the Chariot can describe a quarrel where you lose your bearings, or a setback that forces you to stop. You may be pushing hard while also wanting to go two ways at once. Say you have taken on three projects, none of them is moving, and your irritation lands on family and colleagues. Admit that control has slipped, and ask where you are really headed. Sometimes a defeat helps you see that the goal belonged to someone else.
In love and relationships
In a relationship, the Chariot can reflect a wish to move in the same direction together: relocating, a shared project, planning a wedding. It can also show that one of you drives while the other rides along as a passenger. Check whether you both agree on the route. If the couple is tense now, steer the argument toward a result where both of you come out ahead.
At work
At work, the card can mark a period of active effort: launching a project, competing for a role, a deadline that demands focus. A clear plan and the habit of saying no to extras help a lot. If you lead a team, ask where each person sees things going. If you work alone, pick the one task that must be finished today.
A question for yourself
When my wants pull in different directions, which goal matters most to me this month?
