Major Arcana 18
The Moon: tarot card meaning

What the card shows
A large yellow disc with a face in profile hangs over the scene, ringed with rays and shedding yellow drops. Two grey towers stand at the edges, and a path winds between them toward distant mountains. A dog and a wolf howl on the grass while a crayfish crawls out of the water at the bottom.
Deck: the 1909 edition, illustrated by Pamela Colman Smith.
Upright meaning
uncertainty, hidden things, illusion, anxiety, the unsaid
The Moon shows a situation lit just enough to make out outlines but not details. Everything looks familiar, yet you aren't sure you are reading it correctly. The card can point to something left unsaid, a rumour you took for fact, or a worry that fills in what hasn't happened. The path between the towers does lead somewhere, but it has to be walked slowly. Say a colleague suddenly stops replying and you have already invented three explanations. Hold off on conclusions, list what you know for certain, and write your guesses down separately so you can see them for what they are.
Reversed meaning
unsteadiness, minor deception, fog thinning, doubt, shifting moods
Reversed, the Moon points to fog that is thinning without having fully lifted. The deception here is smaller: an unclear remark, an exaggerated fear, a detail someone left out. The card can describe unsteadiness, where you feel sure of one thing today and the opposite tomorrow. That is uncomfortable, but it shows where your information runs thin. Perhaps you nearly cancelled a trip over a vague feeling, then found it all started with one offhand comment. Check where the worry came from before you decide anything based on it.
In love and relationships
In love, the Moon hints at things left unsaid: you both stay quiet, and each of you fills the gap with your own version. If a partner's answer was short, ask what they meant instead of parsing the tone of a message. A plain 'I'd like to understand where we are' often clears more fog than a week of guessing.
At work
At work the card can describe unclear tasks: a vague brief, talk of a reorganisation, a feeling that nobody has told you everything. Its suggestion is practical. Ask in writing who owns what and by when, and keep rumours separate from announced decisions. Until the picture clears, it is wiser not to make irreversible choices based on someone's retelling of events.
A question for yourself
Which of the things I fear do I actually know, and which have I filled in myself?
